How to Hang Wall Art Without the Stress (Simple Guide for Busy Women)

Have you ever stared at a blank wall… then at your artwork… then back at the wall again—and felt completely overwhelmed about where to even start?

Because same.

This was literally me last week. And after way more trial and error than I’d like to admit, I walked away with a few lessons that I know will save you time, frustration, and maybe even a little sanity.

So let’s talk about it.

The Backstory (aka Why This Took Me 18 Months 🙃)

We have this beautiful shiplap wall in our living room that we finished during our renovation… 18 months ago.

And it has been sitting there. Blank. Waiting.

I’ve been thinking about wall art for that space forever—but not actually doing anything about it.

Then for my birthday, my mother-in-law gave me a gift card to Urban Barn (subtle hint received 😄), and the very next week they had a 20% off sale on wall art.

So I thought:“Okay. This is it. I’m doing it.”

I found a beautiful large 3-piece set, brought it home, and was feeling so motivated to get it up on the wall right away.

Reality Check (aka The Part Where I Get Humbled)

I had a plan.I had my 3M strips.I had my confidence.

And then… real life hit.

My husband gently (not that gently 😅) pointed out:

  • We had dinner to make

  • Kids’ activities to get to

  • And realistically… no time to do this properly

But I pushed ahead anyway.

I mapped everything out using painter’s tape (which actually looked amazing), grabbed the level, got everything lined up… and then realized:

👉 I had stuck the 3M strips on top of the painter’s tape

Which meant eventually…everything would fall.

Cue frustration.

Cue defeat.

Cue me putting the whole project aside for 3 days.

What Actually Worked (When I Tried Again)

By the time Saturday rolled around, I had a new plan.

This time, I:

  • Used exact measurements (not guessing)

  • Mapped spacing properly (2 inches between each frame)

  • Cleaned the wall with rubbing alcohol

  • Took my time (this was key)

And honestly? It went so much smoother.

And 5 days later… everything is still hanging 🙌

3 Real-Life Takeaways That Will Help You

1. Use the tools available to you

You do not have to figure everything out on your own.

I actually used ChatGPT to help me calculate:

  • Wall dimensions

  • Proper art height

  • Spacing between pieces

And it saved me so much time.

This is the kind of shortcut busy women need.Lean into it.

2. Mistakes are part of the process (not proof you’re failing)

That first attempt? Total flop.

But it didn’t mean I wasn’t capable.

It just meant I needed a better approach.

Every DIY project teaches you something—and that lesson carries into the next one.

👉 Progress over perfection. Always.

3. Break big projects into small, doable steps

This was the biggest shift for me.

Instead of thinking:

“I need to hang this whole wall today”

Break it into:

  • Measure

  • Plan layout

  • Mark the wall

  • Prep the surface

  • Hang the art

Suddenly… it feels manageable.

And more importantly—you actually make progress.

The Truth No One Talks About

Hanging wall art isn’t hard…but it’s also not as simple as it looks on Pinterest.

It takes:

  • A bit of planning

  • A bit of patience

  • And yes… sometimes doing it twice

But once it’s done?

It completely transforms your space.

And that feeling of “I did that myself” is so worth it.

If You Want Help With Your Next Project…

If you’re sitting there staring at your own “blank wall moment”—you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I offer:

  • 1:1 in-home DIY sessions (painting, caulking, small projects)

  • Guidance to help you actually start (and finish!)

And I also have an Accent Wall Workshop coming up that I’m so excited about.

Final Thought

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by a project in your home right now…
