Lack of Sleep and a Leaky Vanity

Social media makes renos look so easy and quick doesn’t it? In a 2 minute reel and you see a messy “before” and then a nice, clean and stylish “after”. Reality doesn’t translate like that, trust me. Today, I want to share a little bit of the reality of reno’s and how messy it can be. I don’t mean this to be discouraging, but helpful to you to know that we have all been there and had those moments where we question how/what/when did we get here?
This past fall, we renovated our basement. Prior to this reno we were a family of 4 using one bathroom due to the fact we found mould in our basement bathroom shortly after moving in (talk about buyers remorse!).
After 4 months of renos, dust, tradesmen coming in and out, we had a working bathroom downstairs. So exciting! After about a week of using it, I went to organize my side of the vanity only to find a bunch of water on the wood on the lower shelf. The wood had wrinkled, and I quickly wiped the water away. This was very devastating as not only was the vanity brand new it was designed by Studio McGee and I love everything about it. So, I quickly got towels, wiped it up and called for my husband. He tightened the connections and we didn’t use my side of the vanity again until we had it inspected by the plumber.

It’s all okay now, and I have to live with the bit of damage which luckily is not visible. This all happened on a day that our 3 year old had been up the night before multiple times with a fever so everyone in our house was tired and a little edgy. This wasn’t our first (or worst) experience with water damage and we handled it calmly. We’ve both come to the realization this is part of creating something new, little hiccups happen and you need to just roll with it because in the end it is all worth it! Through the fails we've learned lessons that we can take going forward. Also, being parents of two young children you come to realize that nothing stays pristine for long. And in the end, we want to have a lived-in cozy home, which comes with knicks in the walls and a little bit of water damage here and there.
