Motherhood is a Superpower: How Becoming a Mom Gave Me the Confidence to Start DIY

Woman with holding hands with daughters in a field

After I had my first daughter in 2019, I felt so PROUD of my body. I was sore, tired, and feeling all the postpartum feels but in the middle of that I also had this deep rooted feeling that I was powerful. Like I just pushed out a human being- that’s amazing… then you get into the routine of having a baby, and it feels overwhelming and very hard. A little while later

you come through that fog, and things get easier and you then decide to complicate it again with a second child. It’s messy, its beautiful, and its HARD….now I am sitting here with a 6 & 4 year old and I am incredibly proud of our family and what my husband and i have built together.

During my motherhood journey, I’ve built resilience. I have built strength and a bigger emotional capacity. I have realized just how STRONG women are and how we are truly capable of anything we put our minds to.

This knowledge was the driving force behind me learning home DIY skills. If I can bring two little humans into this world, how hard is caulking baseboards & trim really?? So I gave it a try. And I made mistakes, but I also learned how do it. I found a lot of satisfaction in the finished product and felt a big sense of accomplishment.

So if you’ve been feeling not ready or not good enough, let me tell you something- you are good enough, you are ready and you are capable.

Being a mother is a super power- lean into it and know that you can do anything you put your mind to!

So, if you have been on the fence about learning a new skill, take confidence in what you have already accomplished in your life. And use it to learn a new skill.

And I am here to help you along the way.

Let me leave you with some practical advice on how to stand in your confidence:

  1. Stop the cycle of negative self talk. Your internal narrative directs your output in life, so when you catch yourself talking negatively about yourself, change those to positive thoughts. I can vs I can’t. I am capable, I am strong etc

  2. When that sneaky self doubt kicks in, remind yourself of the amazing things you have accomplished in your life- children, career, personal achievements-sports or fitness etc. Be proud of yourself and what you have accomplished in life.

  3. Also,I want to share my life mantra I’ve learned from counselling & internal reflection- GIVE YOURSELF GRACE. We do so much for others, we are running households, managing careers, the mental load of being a mother is enough to give ourselves a break. So remember that when it may take you longer to get a project done, or you feel frustrated …give yourself GRACE, you are doing a great job. WE all need to get better at this and remembering how much we do on a regular basis and how hardworking we are.

Well, thats all the WOO I have for you today. I really hope I have helped you realize just how capable you are, right now, in this moment.

So, from one DIY MOM to another,

Give yourself GRACE & stand in your power.
