Reclaiming Self Care: What I’m Doing Differently Lately

You know how we tell ourselves we’ll book that massage ‘next week’... and then suddenly it’s been two years? Guilty. But lately, I’ve been reclaiming my self-care in a way that feels doable — and it’s making a difference. I have been intentional with my fitness routine and sleep hygiene but lacking in recovery routines. But I am making a change now.
Trying Lymphatic Drainage Massage
So, last week I had a registered massage with lymphatic drainage. It was such a great experience. For the first time ever I had a stomach massage and targeted areas of my lymph nodes and I felt great after. It was a great reminder of how great massages can be for overall wellness.

As a Respiratory Therapist, I know how important circulation and recovery are to overall wellness-but it's easy to forget that ourselves. Some of the basic benefits of lymphatic massage include reduced swelling, boosts the immune system, promote detoxification, and improved skin health.
New Skill, Same humility: Tennis Lessons
The other thing I have been trying lately is Tennis. I have been taking lessons with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law and it has been a stretching experience. It has been really good for exercise and learning a new skill, but it is so difficult! Trying to get the skill techniques down has been a lesson in patience and perseverance. I have definitely wanted to give up but I really like the sport and I have a desire to do well. I also think it sets a good example for my girls to see me trying a new sport and putting myself out there. It’s humbling, but also kind of exciting to be a beginner again.

Final Thoughts:
Self-care doesn’t have to mean spa days and bubble baths (though I love those too). For me lately, it’s been stepping out of my comfort zone, scheduling real recovery, and choosing habits that remind me I matter too.
If you’re like me — juggling kids, shift work, and creative goals — I hope this encourages you to try one small act of self-care this week. Book that appointment. Say yes to the thing that stretches you.
